Pink pig clothing was born about 12yrs ago.  I used to live in the USA and a friend was having a baby shower.  Being British and never having been to a baby shower before I spent a long time choosing a gift.  I happened to be in a gift shop that sold fabric and came across some gorgeous fleece and cotton.  I bought some, borrowed a friend's sewing machine and made a little fleece blanket and matching cushion which I prettied up wth ribbon.  At the shower everyone said they were so cute I should sell them so I made more and sold them in a few local shops with quite a bit of success.  On returning to the UK I was trying to decide what to do with my time while my son was at school and Pink Pig Clothing was born.  I often get asked about the name and apart from the fact that we used to sell a lot more clothing there is no big meaning to the Pink Pig part - I just thought it sounded cute.  However, my great friend Melanie offers this amusing explanation:

Clara sipped her latte and let out a lingering sigh of disappointment.  Despite the wisdom imparted by her life coach, the endorphins coaxed out by her personal trainer and the (almost) perfect answers made up to stop her therapist going crazy, she wasn't happy.  Tarquin smiled indulgently at her trim and lovely figure as she wafted lusciously across the deck of their new yacht.  'I need a purpose Tarquin!' Clara wailed defiantly, 'and whatever you say, I'm going to set up a gorgeous company which makes gorgeous things for gorgeous people!'

Although Tarquin was accustomed to these flamboyant outbursts, pandering to them invariably ended up costing a lot of money.  Therefore, endeavouring to end the conversation promptly he laughed jovially and said 'You? Run a business? Pigs might fly my angel! Anyway, what greater purpose could you have than being gorgeous for me?'

Clara's face turned an unbecoming shade of pink - shockingly pink!  She flipped open her Prada purse mirror to inspect and repair the damage. 'So you think pigs might fly do you...?' she fumed to herself.  Tarquin would be be made to eat his words of that you could be sure. She glanced down again at her pink complexion, 'Pink face ...pigs might fly ... I'll show him!'

And then what happened? After only 8yrs of trading, the pink pig clothing co. has offices worldwide, employs some 2,000 staff and has an annual turnover in excess of £180m. *

* some of the predicitons for our 8th year of trading may be a little optimistic - let's wait and see in 2012.

Clara's character is the product of on an overactive imagination and blatant stereotyping.  Tarquin's character is the product of sheer malice.....
